‘We Managed to Outperform Teams of 15–20 IT Specialists’
On June 5, 2025, the top projects were presented as part of the Digital Solutions Marathon hackathon in a case study on forecasting and evaluating lost sales. First place went to a joint team of students from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science and the National University of Science and Technology MISIS, consisting of six students.
Mathematicians from HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod Solve 57-Year-Old Problem
In 1968, American mathematician Paul Chernoff proposed a theorem that allows for the approximate calculation of operator semigroups, complex but useful mathematical constructions that describe how the states of multiparticle systems change over time. The method is based on a sequence of approximations—steps which make the result increasingly accurate. But until now it was unclear how quickly these steps lead to the result and what exactly influences this speed. This problem has been fully solved for the first time by mathematicians Oleg Galkin and Ivan Remizov from the Nizhny Novgorod campus of HSE University. Their work paves the way for more reliable calculations in various fields of science. The results were published in the Israel Journal of Mathematics (Q1).

The AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science hosted a conference focused on cutting-edge recommender system technologies. On June 27, 2025, the Faculty of Economic Sciences at HSE University hosted a delegation from the School of Economics at Shanghai University, a partner of the Faculty of Economic Sciences and the International College of Economics and Finance. The main goal of the meeting was to discuss the prospects for expanding cooperation between the partners, specifically the development of academic exchange and the organisation of joint events for students and faculty from both the School of Economics and the Faculty of Economic Sciences.
Building Bridges: Russian–Chinese Summer School on International Relations Opens
The XII Russian-Chinese Summer School on International Relations has opened at HSE University. This year’s theme is ‘Facets of the World Majority: Practice and Narratives.’ The school has brought together 27 master's and doctoral students as well as early-career researchers from leading universities in China and Russia.

For the second year in a row, the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry has held the Start a Business with Moscow international business school for students of Moscow Universities. Last year, Wang Yue, an HSE University student from China, became the winner of the project. On June 16, 2025, the finalists defended their projects and business ideas in front of business representatives and potential investors. This year, six students from HSE University made it to the finals. The Tourism Development Institute under the Committee for Tourism of the Republic of Uzbekistan and HSE University have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at establishing and developing academic, cultural, and other partnerships in the fields of education and tourism. The initiative for signing the agreement came from the Institute for Creative Industries Development at the HSE Faculty of Creative Industries.

Experts from HSE University took part in the BRICS Academic Forum (FABRICS) held in the capital of Brazil this year. The main theme of the event was to discuss cooperation among countries in the Global South amid geopolitical turbulence and rapid technological change. Academics and experts from BRICS member states and partner nations explored topics such as global healthcare, AI technologies, trade, climate change, and reform of the multilateral global security and governance architecture.
